Lake Lure Lions Club Environmental Litter Project June 28
Tuesday, June 28th Lions Ken and Mary Ellen Jones, Roger Masson, Helena Facchini and Diane Barrett started at YaYa Sky Drive and worked our way down Bills Creek Road to the Mountains Branch Library picking up litter. When finished we had collected enough litter to fill 14 bags. Our actions made a difference. We plan to collect litter one day a month as our Club's environmental project. Won't you consider helping with our next pick-up effort?
Mr. Carl Meier (a non-Lion) helped with the project and took the picture.

Lake Lure Lions Club Charter Night
Forty-one people gathered on Thursday, March 24 at the Lake Lure Inn & Spa, to celebrate the 32 birthday of Lake Lure Lions Club. The tables were finely set, the savory smelling food filled the room, and excited attendees were ready to enjoy a festive evening topped off with a large birthday cake.
Following the opening agenda items on the program, our guest speaker, Chief of Police Eric Hester spoke. He provided some information on his background, interest in law enforcement, and how he became the Lake Lure Chief of Police. Chief Hester informed us of some criminal activities that have been happening in our community, as well as an announcement concerning credit card theft which has been occurring recently in our Town and surrounding towns.
He also alerted us to check our credit cards for unauthorized charges. If there were any, report them to the credit card company and also come to the police department to make a report. Having this information will assist them in their investigation of these criminal activities. Chief Hester also spoke about the town youth program and how successful it has been, and he expressed his appreciation for our Club's financial support of this program. He mentioned they need volunteers to work with the kids between 3:00-5:00. If you have the time, please consider this as a service project. They would also be glad to receive any appropriate movies on VHS or DVD. His First Sergeant Andy Greenway also spoke briefly describing some of his duties.
Following our speaker, we recognized Lion Club Monarch members with ten or more years of service: Lions Ron Supinger (46 yrs), Helen Nelon (28 yrs), Everette Chapman (16 yrs), Lois Mathews (14 yrs), Wendell Mathews (14 yrs), Donna Supinger (13 yrs), Nancy Kessel (13 yrs), Clark Kessel (13 yrs) and Anne Gundel (11 yrs).
Those present received a Lions Chevron for this achievement. Also acknowledged were members that had received the Melvin Jones (10) and/or Jack Stickley awards (18). Past Lion Governor Marti Hill presented the “Club Excellence Award 2009-2010” badge to our club for its growth in membership and past President Diane Goodwin received an Excellence pin for her participation during her tenure.
As with any organization, new members are vital to a successful operation. Six people recently joined our Club and five of them participated in an induction ceremony conducted by Past District Governor Ron Supinger. These new members are Barbi and Randy Snyder, Joanne Hurley, Dick Gurz, and Ken Jones. Mary Ellen Jones was not present so she will be inducted at a future meeting.
