APRIL 2012
My fellow Lions,
Welcome to spring in Lake Lure! I'm sure you are all busy spring cleaning, getting ready for Easter, planting gardens, and much more. We have a very busy April calendar for the Lake Lure Lions. Please be sure to bring your calendars or appointment books to our next meeting on April 12,2012. Our plant sale is taking orders now, so get your orders in to Penny soon. The Lake Lure yard sale is scheduled for the 21st of this month. We will have 6 tables (maybe 8) to sell donated goods. Please gather your donations and let me know size and approximate space it may require. If you have a large item that needs truck pick up please let me know as soon as possible. I will pick any furniture, old tools, yard equipment, musical instruments, etc. I will be handling pricing on the day of the event with your prior input of course.
Our golf tournament is on May 4, 2012 and if you haven't started getting your hole sponsors, please begin. Get your golf teams together and register to play and promote the event to family, friends, and guests of the resort. We need all your hard work to make our events successful and the golf tournament is our biggest fund raiser. Other scheduled events: Volunteer Week at Camp Dogwood- Maintenance Volunteer week is scheduled for April 22-26, 2012. For more info see forwarded e-mail dated 3/2/2012 from Lion Diane.
Have a wonderful and safe Easter Holiday.
Thanks for all you do,
Lion John Pena
President

* It would also help me out personally if folks were asked to have their sponsor info in by April 23rd so that the info can be included in the directory. Anything received after that will have to wait for inclusion in the August Olympiad Book. That's a 'hard set date.' We'll be making 150-200 copies, so I won't be able to wait beyond that date. Thanks, Penny
* The club received a nice letter of thanks from the McCune Center for its donation of a "Talking Watch" for one of the VIP residents. There is also a nice write up about their Easter Egg hunt in the District Newsletter for April. Thanks to all of you who donated candy and thanks to Lion Paul Everhart for delivering it.
* Remember our Membership Drive on May 10. Prizes will be given to those bringing prospective new members.
* Litter pick up is the 4th Tuesday of each month. Contact Lion Roger Masson or Lion Diane Barrett.
Notices
- March Meetings:
- Our club hosted two very interesting speakers in the Month of March. Lion Gary Green of the Lake Waccamaw Lions Club gave an excellent presentation about NC Boys and Girls Homes. Boys and Girls Homes have been a State project for NC Lions since 1954. Over 5,000 kids have benefitted from this program since its inception. Lion Gary has sponsored 65 new Lions, as well as forming 5 new clubs. What a fantastic record!
- PDG Marti Hill spoke at the Charter Night meeting on April 22. As always, she was entertaining and informative. She is District Chair for Camp Dogwood and spoke of all that is taking place at that facility. She also had pictures that were passed around for any who had not visited.
- Thanks to all who worked to make our Charter Night special. Marty and Debby Haugh were inducted by PDG Marti. They have been in Florida since joining and will be back with us in June. We welcome them to our club and look forward to working with them upon their return.
- Lions John Pena, Jeannette Moran and Diane Goodwin attended the Zone Mtng. in Forest City on March 13. Zone Chair Mary Ruth Alexander stated that the District realized a profit of $1359.00 from the trees which were purchased to sale. Monies were donated to White Cane.
Looking Ahead
May Golf Tournament
Lion Bill Moran is looking for volunteers to help with the May 4 Golf Tournament. This is the club's biggest fundraiser during the year. Please contact Lion Bill and offer your help.
May Cookout
To help advance the awareness of what the Lions do, Lake Lure Lions are planning a cook-out dinner in May followed with a fun-filled round of Putt-Putt or corn-hole toss (participant's preference), to reach out to people in the community and show them what the Lions are all about and to encourage membership. - Lion Diane Barrett, Publicity Chairman
