My Fellow Lions,

This is my last newsletter! As new president, Lion Diane Barrett will be using this space beginning in July. Let me take this opportunity to thank all of you for your hard work and support this past year. Overall, I think we've had a pretty good year in spite of a few bumps in the road! First time ever that our golf tournament was rained out, but we've been rescheduled for July 12th. Hopefully, the weather will be nice and we'll have another great tournament!

The month of May was a busy one. Lion Helen, Lion Jeannette and I attended the zone social. We had a really nice meal and awards were presented. Our awards are given at different times than the other clubs. Therefore, I read a list of our winners. We are particularly proud of the fact that we had two Jack Stickley recipients this year and one Melvin Jones. Every club member has an opportunity to win. If you want to know the criteria, just contact the secretary or president.

Lion Jeannette, Lion Ron Henson, Lion Tom Carlson and I also had the pleasure of going to the Rutherford DAV and having dinner with their group. We presented them a check for $1,000 to help with the needs of disabled vets in Rutherford County. There is a great need here and they were deeply grateful. A nicer group of people you'll never meet! This is a great example of our club making a difference in the lives of people who need and deserve our help.

I am also proud to report that our Board approved three scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to be awarded in June. All three recipients are great students and it is gratifying to be able to help with their education.

If you missed the last club meeting, you really missed a treat! Lion Ron Henson planned a "cookout" and membership drive. He barbecued wonderful ribs and chicken! We had seven guests attend and Lions Terrell and Ron Supinger gave short presentations letting them know what Lions International and our club in particular do to help those in need. It was a great social event and we all had a really good time. A great way to let others in the community know what our club is all about. Thanks, Lion Ron, for a job well done. Hopefully, we'll get seven new members as a result. We really enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone.

Last, but not least, we had our White Cane drive this past Memorial Day weekend. Unfortunately, we got rained out on Monday. Those who worked Saturday and Sunday were able to sell a lot of brooms and take in good donations. This allowed our club to meet White Cane goals for the year.

Again, thanks to all of you for your hard work this past year. Every member has a contribution to make. I know you'll continue to strive for bigger and better things. I look forward to this next year and to working with our new President.

Yours in Lionism,
Diane
