Lions,

We had a great meeting last night. Our two newest members, Bruce Barrett and Pat Whittaker were inducted - let's all make sure that we make them welcome and answer all questions they may have. We also had another visitor, Kendall Aben, who we hope will want to join us. I learned that he has been helping with the painting at the McCune Center and this is greatly appreciated!

We also had Dr. Troy Tevis from Tri-City Optometric give us a real education on different diseases and conditions of the eye. Dr. Tevis also explained how many health problems can be detected during an eye exam. His presentation was both interesting and informative. As Lions, it is important that we understand why the work we are doing is so important.

Sadly, I have to report that Mike Howard (the Vision Van Co-ordinator) will not be able to continue on after February 10th due to health problems. NCLF is seeking someone to take this position, but it will not be easy to fill. Mike was very dedicated and logged many hours and road miles over the years-- he will be sorely missed. NCLF is still booking the Vision Van and will let us know if anything changes. We also learned that District Chaplain Hub Simmons passed away. Another dedicated Lion who continued on even when it was difficult.

If you have missed several meetings, please keep in mind the work of these very dedicated people and how important what we do is to those who are in need. Think of the commitment you made when you were inducted into the Club. Have you honored that commitment? Lion Diane Barrett is looking for people to serve in several positions next year and she needs your help. I know all of you have a commitment to service or you would not have joined this Club. Holidays and other commitments always slow things down this time of the year. But, it is time to look forward. We're going to be getting busy really soon. Names for new officers have to be submitted by March 18. Also, our Charter Night will be March 25th.

Thanks to all of you for the support you've given me and the hard work that you have done over the past months. Let's put the holidays behind us and get back to work! Hope to see you at the next meeting.

Yours in Lionism.

Lion Diane

Added: If you would like to submit your name for a vacant office or a seat on the Board of Directors, please contact Lion Diane Barrett. Her nominating committee must give these names to Lion Jeannette by March 18 for the year 2010-2011. She will also need to know if you would like to chair a certain committee. All of you need to be thinking about which committee or committees you would like to serve on.
