McCune Center

Article by Diane Barrett

Earlier this year five Lake Lure Lions Club members put on their working clothes and used a lot of elbow grease to give the McCune Center a bright and colorful facelift. These industrious volunteers painted and redecorated rooms at the Marjorie McCune Memorial Center which is a licensed Adult Care Home owned and operated by the Lions of Western North Carolina. Located in Black Mountain, North Carolina, the center is nestled in the Swannanoa Valley of Buncombe County. For those who live at the McCune Center, life is simply an extension of their own lives. Resident's are able to spend time with their families, friends, and neighbors, in a setting that says "Welcome Home".
Originally intended to accommodate the visually impaired, the McCune Center has become home to any persons with disabilities or inabilities to manage everyday life on their own. Their staff is well trained to accommodate many types of needs. For more information about the Center, call 828-669-8452 or check the web site at www.mccunecenter.org .

That is what the Lions Club is all about - volunteering and serving others. Our predominant mission is to assist the blind and visually handicapped and the deaf or hearing impaired, so if you are interesting in working with us to help others, contact your local Lions Club.
